The Kybalion Explained

The Kybalion, first published in 1908 under the pseudonym "The Three Initiates," presents seven principles that it claims are the foundation of all Hermetic philosophy — the operating system of reality as understood by the Western Esoteric tradition.

The Seven Principles

• Vibration — "Nothing rests; everything moves." The principle that governs mood, energy, influence, and the transmission of states between people.
• Polarity — "Everything is dual." How opposites are not contradictions but extremes of the same spectrum — and what this means for emotional mastery.
• Rhythm — "Everything flows, out and in." The pendulum swing that governs cycles of energy, mood, creativity, and fortune.
• Cause and Effect — "Every cause has its effect." The difference between being a cause and being an effect, and how to shift between them.
• Gender — "Gender is in everything." The masculine and feminine principles as creative forces within every person, not social roles.

Beyond the Surface

The Kybalion is one of the most widely read texts in the Western Esoteric tradition, but it is also one of the most superficially understood. Most readers stop at the aphorisms. This book goes further: each principle is examined through the lens of its practical application, its relationship to Jungian psychology, and its connection to the older Hermetic sources that the Kybalion itself draws from.
